When I was researching on the song lyrics before ten years one particular album got my attention which I would like to share with you guys. It is about an album called “The Fat of the Land” that was released in the year 1997, sung by “prodigy” a British group and which was distributed by Warner Bros stirred a big controversy among the women folk and feminists including Eleanor Smeal, actress Melba Moore and Gloria Steinem that the song lyrics were very degrading women altogether. They even staged a demonstration outside the Time Warner Inc. headquarters to show their protest.
Even though women today might not say song lyrics of the album as degrading, before a decade it was a much hyped issue. The protesters then even wanted to meet the chairman of Time Warner Inc. but were denied permission. The album was said to be a mixture of hard rock, techno and hip hop style and was also reviewed by the their senior vice president “Bob Merlis” in Burbank.
The song that was played on all radio stations contained the lyrics “Change my pitch up and Smack my bitch up”. Many women listeners said that the song lyrics are objectionable and considered it as hate literature. But Mr. Merlis told the press that they have not received any objection or complaints from their consumers.
